I was Pierce's room mate his freshman year at Michigan Tech 1954-55. We lost touch when I transferred to another school. Recently another Tech friend and I made contact after many years and we were searching for Pierce when we stumbled on this site. I am sorry that he has passed but happy to see that he lived a full life with many friends. You and his wife might be interested in a couple of recollections. He was a fine room mate and we got along well. I especially enjoyed getting an introduction to semi-classical music from his small collection of six records that we played over and over. There was only one local radio station which played only polkas. We belonged to the camera club together but I never thought that he was so seriously involved in photography. At one point we got into a bet about who could spend the least amount of money for an entire month. It ended in a tie. We both spent a quarter for our half of the month's Playboy magazine that we shared. The last time I saw Pierce was in the fall of 1955 when a friend and I drove up to Tech for 'old times sake'. We were heading out when we decided to sneak into Pierce's room at 6AM and dump a bucket of cold water on him to wake him up and say goodbye. College pranks!  RIP, Pierce.

Thank you for posting these memories.  It is nice to hear of Peirce's college days; he was a good photographer, and very encouraging to the members of fotki who were just learning.  He never said a bad word about any of my shots, just ignored the bad and praised the good.  I never met him, but I considered him a valued friend.
      Thanks again.

Thank you for your kind words and thoughts ... he is missed by many people and his Fotki site is still very busy with viewers. He told me all about photography when I was 8 or 9. And now thanks to him, the camera is part of my left hand.  Thank you all for your words and thoughts ..........
