Hi Gary, wanted to let you know that someone is using individual pictures of you to preform romance scams on dating sites. The name they were using was John Fisher... divorced , no kids. I am sorry to say but, I was talking to this fake person for a month. He texted me a picture of you playing pool and several pictures he had on line with Afroromance.com. When the guy wouldn’t speak directly to me and only did text messages I became suspicious and decided to do a search of your pictures. Please be careful with your identity.

    Hi Gary and Erin
Have just been looking at your Malawi highlight album, and your photographs are great.  What a wonderful thing a camera is!  I was brought up on stories of David Livingstone and Africa at Sunday School, we used to save pennies for Jesus and Africa!!!!   What a great trip you had!

We have been up north and had a wonderful trip, but only in Scotland!  You must be the furthest travelled American I have ever met!

    Stay happy

Gary......I'm just watching some bee keeping videos on the tube and a question arises.  Keepers use smoke to "calm" the bees when working around them.  What do you use to generate the smoke?  It isn't wood smoke is it?

    • Hi Mike, sorry for the delay...  most local beekeepers I know use dried pine needles off of local pine trees...  works well...  also, pine cones and or sticks and twigs...  one can also buy compressed fuel pellets for the smoker at a bee supply store online...  Best Wishes / writing from Leon, Nicaragua...   Gary

I like the idea of a visual diary...Perhaps I shall give it a try, although I am not sure that I have the discipline for choosing ONE for each day. My work has proven that I have litle discipline at all.....maybe that will be the theme.

Kept seeing you come up on my searches through Fotki. So I stopped by.
Great site you have. I started out enjoying how you used the site as a daily diary. (I may have to use that!)
Then I noticed that you also use the Journals and the Forums that are built in to Fotki. I myself am trying to use those more often as well.
And of course all the great photos you guys are taking! I will be visiting your site often.....
    Have a great day Gary............

I  just checked my benchmark samples. Im now down to 3 missing out of 314 pictures in one album (under 1%), http://search.fotki.com/stein_s/?q=1962

I have also tagged a number of pictures that I have found missing at any one time. In that sample the percentage of missing pictures is somewhat higher..

Even before Sandy, temporarily missing pictures occured. I suppose this is due to the "timeout effect" The pictures must be stored on several servers, First you access the core file which contains the links to the pictures, Then the pictures are accessed and presented. All data exchange runs over the Internet, if it is slow, or there is a particularly heavy processing load on one (or more) server(s) the system might not receive all the requested pictures on time.an just skip it in further processing.

It can be compared to missing a connecting flight when you travel,

If there is a timeout anywhere, the picture appears to be missing. Under normal conditions, renewing the page will solve the problem, since the picture is just late for the next leg.
