This B&B is situated in a quiet, hazzle-free living quarter half way between airport and city center. Transportation in both direction is easily to organize by yourself. The two rooms are simple but proper. Perfect for a mid to long term stay on an acceptable day-rate (depending on if you wish to have breakfast/supper). Sineta is very friendly, helpfully, knows people around and will help you out for sure with many problems/information requests.
Just a note for people visiting Senegal that need FRENCH, WOLOF or PULAAR lessons...
I recently stumbled upon an EXCELLENT SCHOOL -
VOICE Music & Language School in Medina. Classes were only 200,000cfa (local money) a month 3x a week, 2 hrs a day! 5 days a week is 320,000 cfa (local money). If you're a RESEARCHER or JOURNALIST and have a budget for lessons, I'd suggest you take these classes and keep the overage for SHOPPING!
By comparison, the French Institute is 30,000cfa an hour ($65 USD) or 720,000cfa a month ($1550 USD) and the Baobab Center is 15,000cfa ($35 USD) an hour or 360,000cfa a month ($730 USD).
VOICE Music & Language school is a BARGAIN and Pulaar is something you don't normally see given - FI and the Baobab Center don't even offer classes in Pulaar (for the southern region of Senegal).
You can call them to schedule your lessons, the Director speaks English: 011 221 775 657 171 out of country 775 657 171 in Senegal
I believe he said they have a website on FaceBook as well.
GOOD LUCK and tell Jeremy Sineta from SENEGALSTYLE sent you!

Sineta,
Woo Hoo! We got our package in just 9 days! Here are some pictures of Mike posing in his new outfit. He is really impressed with the shiny fabric and the shell buttons! He is going to show it off to frends and family online and at church this weekend. His African-suit wearing friend will be envious!
I hope all is going well in Senegal. I wanted to let you know that my research project went well. We collected data all along the coast from St. Louis to Ziguinchor. Then, I had a much needed little vacation with my friend in Mali. So, I'm back in Baltimore now with EXACTLY the same hot, rainy weather as West Africa :-)
Please give my best to Jonathan and Jasmine. It was great to meet you all. Thanks for sharing your home and your infinite knowledge and connections in Senegal with me.
All the best, Tonia

a side note, I am still loving those giant drums that your guys made for me! Was just playing them the other night. I may switch out the goat skin for cow skin sometime for a deeper, boomier sound but for now I'm enjoying them as they are.

I recently moved to Dakar, Senegal for a year. I stayed with Sineta at Senegalstyle the first week I arrived and used her place as a home base to get myself settled in. My first week here would have been a headache without her help. She helped me to get a cell phone, obtain all materials necessary to apply for a visa, and was able to answer every question I had about life in Dakar.
SenegalStyle B&B is a fabulous small family operation. I would describe the place as safe, friendly, convienent, and the best value around. Sineta is an amazing hostest- incredibly friendly and a fantastic cook. I highly recommend paying for meals- they are worth it. Sineta bends over backwards to help you in any way she can- from giving you a lift on her scooter on her way downtown to giving you advice on shopping, local transportation, banks and everything else in between. She is a native english speaker- which is a real comfort after a long day out among french and wolof speakers. If you are looking for a five star hotel and can afford the ridiculously high prices- this is not the place for you. But if you are someone looking for a real taste of Senegal in a safe and warm environment, without being ripped off - SenegalStyle is the best place to stay and the first place I would recommend.

I stayed at SenegalStyle for about 3 weeks while working in Dakar with a local non-governmental organization. Staying at this bed and breakfast felt more like a home stay in which Sineta and her son, Jonathan, made me feel like was a member of the family. Their home is located in a safe and convenient area in Dakar with access to multiple forms of public transportation. I loved being able to get to the city center with ease, while being able to relax away from the hubbub at the B&B. Sineta is an American who has been in Senegal for 10 years and literally seems to know everything and everyone in Dakar. It's a perfect place to get oriented to the city and make connections with people, especially for native English speakers.

Relaxed and friendly senegastyle is my recommendation for anyone going to Dakar. It's location in a nice neighbourhood has good communications wherever you want to go. Apart from the nice room, it's was really valuable for me as a non french speaking person to have someone to ask for directions and tips about the city. It's really a home away from home.

Senegal Style is a good value B and B in Dakar which is fairly expensive city in West Africa. Sineta is a knowledgable woman that knows a lot about Dakar and can help you navigate. The rooms are good and she prepares good food. It is a little ways from the center but there is a nearby bus stop and taxis.

I stayed at SenegalStyle B&B for one month and I have to say, that being a first time female traveller, (to Africa) I was a bit nervous. I didn’t understand what was going on with this person on the other side of the world – her emails made it seem like she was my friend. But she doesn’t know me so how could that be? Anyway there was so much back and forth leading up to my trip that by the time I arrived, I did indeed feel that we were old friends.
450,000 a month was what I paid (prepaid to get a better rate of 15,000 a day) - about $900 a month or $30 a day, took care of room and board, including fabulously rich and delicious dinners cooked by Sineta and served restaurant style, every day.
This was the best bargain in Dakar! Thumbs up SenegalStyle!

The drum experience sounds really really fabulous. Girl, you really got it goin' on. You continue to have all of these good ideas and are putting them into action. I think you are a real go getter and I am so proud of you.
My favorite drummer and his lady returned from an 8month long visit to west Africa. She is a dancer and I believe the two of them will start their own company in NY. She turned 25 yesterday. They are real go getters too and I love them both so much....That's Matt and Sherece. I believe they will be famous one day.
My dear, one day when you least expect it I will show up. I don't know when but it will happen. Time and money are the factors I am dealing with but this is a priority for me.
You keep on keeping on while you can. I think you are great and doing great things for all of us
Peace and Love,
Kricket

THUMBS UP on SenegalStyle DRUMSCHOOL!
Hey Cuz!!
The drum school sounds exciting. I’m looking forward to hearing how it goes. The drum making part is an awesome addition that most other schools don’t do.
Well folks, today is June 5th 2009 and the US Postal Service is very unpredictable, I have ordered several things and some have arrived in a week or so, but the last one took several months to get here. It was postmarked 3-18-2009 from Dakar, Senegal and I get got it yesterday 6-4-2009 here in California, but it was worth the wait. The outfits were fabulous, Thanks again Sineta... So the moral of the story, don't wait till the last minute, ya better order your Christmas gifts now. HA HA

Oh My God! They must have walked the package across the ocean, yes the rest of the suits just arrived (June 4th @ 2:25 pm). The one with the "Thou shall not steal!" on the package. We I'm so happy with all you have done and made for me. Most excellent!!!
I told you before I'm getting married so I have had to save my money for the wedding which it coming up on June 21st. Once we get it all paid for I will be placing more orders with you and getting more soap too. We both love the soap.
Well I just wanted to let you know IT'S HERE and I just love the colors and all.
Thank you and I will be back in touch with you soon.
U hav GOT 2b KIDDING ME!!! Well, that's GREAT! I swear I don't know what's going on with the US postal service sometimes, (see letter from Suzanne below... ) it's not walking across the ocean, it's on a plane to NY, overnight, express mail basically. THEN the mail pouches are turned over to US Customs and then the US postal service.
Therein lies the breakdown in normal delivery times and it's so sporatic in that sometimes it's normal, sometimes quick, and sometimes 2 months... like in your case. If you look at the envelpe, you'll see many date stamps from Senegal, day, month, year, so it would be 2/14/2009 for example. You'll see the exact day I mailed it (packing, applying the stamps and using the USPS date stamp myself to stamp the envelope. I am basically my own postal clerk, go in the back and personally do everything myself. That's how I know that it's not a Senegalese poste problem, it's a US post problem!
ANYWAY, all's well that ends well and I'm so glad you and your beloved like the soaps!
If you don't mind, I'd like to post your letter on my website guestbook so if this problem comes up again on the west coast of the US I can show it to other people so they don't think I'm just trying to rip them off or whatever!
Thanks Ali and GOOD LUCK with your wedding!
Sincerely,
Sineta

I have an antique Salvation Army drum that needed to be repaired. I knew of SenegalStyle Djembes because I had seen Sineta and Ibou with their drums at art festivals here in Dakar and asked about the possibility of Ibou repairing my drum. It's a very large drum that needed someone with a lot of experience to figure out how to repair it properly without destroying its antique look. Ibou and Sineta together had the skills and found the materials needed to fix it beautifully at a very reasonable price. It is now restored to its original condition and is back in my home with a new life looking super lovely!
Thanks Again!

Dear Sineta,
The two indigo shirts you made for me arrived very quickly, only took a week to reach CA. The US Postal System is working well.
The shirts are gorgeous beyond anything I could have imagined. They are practical and elegant at the same time, and their cost is a real bargain.
I love their design, the richness of their colors, the lightness of the fabric, and its aroma.
Although you made the short-sleeved one for heat waves, the long-sleeved one will be cool in hot weather, too. I am crazy about both, and look forward to wearing them often.
They feel silky even before being washed.
Thank you for these exquisite tops. I look forward to coming back for more of your creations.
I just recently moved to Dakar, Senegal for a year. The first week in Dakar I stayed at SenegalStyle B&B and it was fantastic. This small family run B&B is warm, convienent, friendly, and the best deal around. Sineta is the best hostest ever. She knows everything about Dakar and can help you with anything you need to know or do. She took a lot of time out of her day to give me a ride to the embasy in downtown Dakar, helped me to get all the materials together to apply for my visa, purchase a cell phone and give me advice on banks, local transportation, markets, etc. As a native english speaker it was great to stay with Sineta. After spending all day downtown with Wolof and French speakers- coming back to Senegalstyle gave my head a break from translating- it was a huge comfort and easier to relax. And did I mention that her food is fabulous- I highly recommend paying for both breakfast and dinner in addition to your room- it is worth it!
If you are looking for a four star hotel and want to pay ridiculously high prices- this is not the place for you. But if you want to stay in a safe, friendly enviornment without being ripped off -Senegalstyle is your best choice and my first recommendation.

Dear Sineta,
It's always a pleasure communicating with you. Your positive spirit is inspiring. You are a talented artist and businesswoman. Your website is outstanding, a dazzling array of visual and verbal information. The fabrics you choose to work with are exquisite, and the clothes you make are unique and delightful. Your handling and shipping are flawless. Your prices are an amazing good deal. You treat your customers well in a personal way that matters.
I had no idea about mud cloth until I found your website. From detailed discussions with you, and other online research, I became eager to buy some. We figured out a special jacket you could make for me. It arrived in about a week, surprisingly sooner than expected. I had seen a photo of the fabric as it looked spread out in one piece, so the way it all came together again when cut up and sewn into a jacket (and handbag) is delightful. The colors are earthier and richer than I had imagined, and the texture is more substantial and satisfying than I had envisioned, too. The design and the fit are perfect, and I will wear the jacket, and use the handbag, with pleasure.
Potential buyers beware, once you strike up a fantastic bargain with this incredible woman, you feel curious to venture further. You look at your old, dull rags from mass-market outlets hanging in your tiny closet, and think, let's go back to Senegal! how about a shirt from some indigo cloth? It's time for another radical change! and there you go again, figuring out the options with da jembe queen, and learning all you can about indigo cloth, too.
Sineta, you set a good example in everything you do. From what I've read, your other customers love your other products as much as I love mine.
I hope you'll have the time and energy some day to write a book about your life experiences.
Thank you again for enriching my life with your expertise and your creations.
