I dinna speak the Doric but in Cumberland dialect this Albion Reiver with a bagged load looks reet weel balanced an tidily sheeted nut like sum o them fellas frae the sooth that just throw a sheet on an tie at the corners flappin o ower the spot. If this Reiver hed a 400 power plus in, she wud go.
Hauliers from North of the border were always known for their tidy rope & sheet loads, probably because they had much further to go to their destinations. I suppose there was a certain amount of skill required, and the Flat Leaf Trailer Men had pride in their work as well in the rope and sheet days, there is nothing quite like a well roped and sheeted load, which ever part of the country it comes from! It's a bit of a dying art these days! Thanks for your comment, and thanks for viewing the site.

Sandy Hadden used to park his lorry alongside Eden Park, on the road that links West Road and Cairntrodlie.........I think that is Grange Gardens. This was in the early 70's. He then went on to be the main man in Ullapool for getting loads of mackerel. How times have changed!!!!!
Can you remember what kind of lorry it was?, we used to play there as kids at the 'swing park', when it was a real park, before the days when Health & Safety made swings & everything soft and padded! (!!!!!!) If you took a fall on concrete, your only protection was your skull, which usually split! (Ah, those were the days!) Yikes!! Maybe H & S is not such a bad thing in parks nowadays????? Just seen the message you added to my comment in your guest book. Thought I should tell you I am the wife!
(OOPS, Sorry! No offence meant in any shape or form to Lady viewers) (he,he!). Are you interested in lorries then?, most women aren't really that interested! I have a funny feeling you are about to tell me you also drive Lorries, would I be right? Mr Munkle - (18/02/08)
Desperately looking for a picture of HSA 950F, A GUY 8 wheeler, Gardner 150, Colour Green. Would have been seen around Peterhead Port Hendry Harbour - Seagate area in the Late 1960's - early 70's. Owned and run by Fergie Allan. Someone out there in Peterhead must have a picture of this lorry! It went on to be used in the Shows, and visited Peterhead a few times with Wrights Amusements in the 1970's. Did anyone take pictures of Showland lorries on Peterhead Links in the mid-late 70's with Wrights Amusements?
Hi, just like to say thanks for fond memories of companies my late father drove for(John Rhinds, Inverdon and Christian Salvesen) I would love to get copies of the Inverdon lorries,as they are the only ones i have seen on the net.I loved being driven around in the many lorries he drove.A lot of the salvesen drivers went on to start Bon-Accord Transport. Thanks again for fond memories

Brilliant site gr8 to see the amount of haulage there was in the Peterhead area back in the early days. Some gr8 photographs. Also your other site of old Peterhead is just as good. Hope you keep up the good work on both of them.
I try to keep both sites upgraded as time permits! (never enough time!) Mr Munkle - (08/02/08)
