Hi Lloyd,

Congratulations on coming 4th in the journalist contest, and thank you for coming over to my site to congratulate me. I feel quite overwhelmed really - I only ever thought it ok to come in the top 30% and that was all I ever hoped for so I'm a bit knocked out really !

Smiles,

Snow

Hi Lloyd,
I really enjoyed your new album, "5-3-07 Peaked and Middle Mtn".
I'll have to check that hike out in the near future.

Be well my friend,
Joey

Wow.

We started to get the snow - then it turned to freezing rain.
You can keep that crap.. I rather snow. :)

Its pretty much been freezing rain and junk...
The coast guard is reporting some wicked ice flows - a few ships were damaged and had to rescue them. The ice is cutting into the ships. A few fishermen said its the worst they've ever seen the ice.

I wanted to go to Peggy's Cove to see the record waves - they were splashing onto the roads... but the freezing rain held me back from venturing. When you get near the ocean and freezing rain... its scary stuff.. :) We met a girl that lives near the lighthouse and she offered us to park at her house any time we want to venture the other shores. :) Cool.. (the tourists don't go there).

Hi Lloyd,

I love the tree pics and will pop back to see how it evolves during the year. I'm kind of doing the same thing month by month with whatever is around me wherever I am.

Good wishes

Hi Lloyed,

Just wanted to stop in and let you know how much I enjoyed your creative photo album (especially the dragonfly on the post) I also really enjoyed your other site. You do some beautiful work. Sounds like we have similar taste tho, i also enjoy nature, hiking, etc and struggle with anxiety/panic. I see you are also a Lost fan, I have to say this might be one of the best shows ever and this season is incredible! Thanks for sharing your photos!

Thanks for uploading your images of the storm. You guys got hit a lot harder than we did - again. Your photos are amazing! You really captured the essence of the storm - brutal and destructive. Nature is truly a force we cannot deal with. Although we had a foot of snow and it was heavy, we also got extremely high winds during the night which blew away the snow. You can imagine how ferocious the wind was to blow that heavy snow away!

It's such a shame about the home that was destroyed by fire. As you said, thank goodness she was outside shoveling at the time. Power outages are so hard on people. It's really a shame about the loss of the aquarium fish. We know how difficult and expensive it is to establish a good acquarium. Do your parents have household insurance?

We have more snow in the forecast as well for today. At the same time, the tradewinds are coming up from the gulf so it will probably turn to rain very quickly and wash away whatever is left of Saturday's storm.

Thanks for your message :)

In answer to your question about the most recent snowstorm. I put this in Snow's guestbook in response to her idea of putting a new feature up for current albums (around the world) .....

We had a terrific snowstorm here yesterday that dumped a foot of snow on us. The winds were very very high and howled all night long - actually shaking the windows. We started taking photos of it around 10pm but they're still sitting in our camera waiting to be stored on the computer. When they'll actually make their way up to Fotki and an album is anybody's guess. We take a lot of our photos in raw mode and they all need to be touched up. That's very time consuming as well.

Lloyd (Lloyd's Journey) must be chuckling about now. He lives closer to us than anyone else on Fotki at the moment - down the peninsula and across the straight. He's been hit with one storm right after another most of the winter while they've all passed us by. We got a terrific snowstorm in the beginning of Dec. (before it was officially winter) and then our 2nd one yesterday (after winter had officially ended). He must be thinking - at last they got a taste of winter up there LOL. Interjecting at this point :). So we'd like to show you the storm photos, but you'd probably have better luck seeing the same storm on Lloyd's site first :).

Don't be making a liar out of me now and get those pictures up LOLOL (joking).

Hope your Easter was a good one. We had a very nice day and a nice meal of Heavenly Ham (homemade) with all the trimmings. It was capped off with candy coated whole almonds (a l'Italian). Rich worked all weekend (on call), so we were able to get caught up with uploading albums. Boy did we ever fall behind :P.

Hello friends,

I hope this finds you all in good health and enjoying your day. I write to everyone to share a thought of mine.

As Fotki has members worldwide I had a humble idea which people might like to consider and perhaps join in with.

We could all open a folder called

'Across continents'

and each month we could compile an album to put in the folder. Then we could all visit each other every month to get a glimpse of each other's worlds as they have been for the past month. For example, starting this month my first album to go in my 'Across continents' folder would be:

'My world, April '07.'

to be followed next month by

'My world. May '07.'

In these albums we could record anything we wanted to that had been part of our life, part of our lifestyle, part of our little corner of the Earth, for the month. And we could make a new album every month. If we all, world wide, were doing it we might gain a greater understanding of each other's lives throughout the seasons, and a greater global perspective.

Even in the UK where I am living there are differences across the country, at any time of year, in weather conditions, plant growth, and even fashions. Different festivals are held in different parts of the UK and different rituals are enjoyed, some based in ancient folklore. So even across this small island everybody would have different things to add to their album each month.

Thanks to Fotki I have friends now in so many places around the world and in an effort to promote global unity, global awareness, and an interest in and an understanding of other people's lives and life styles, I thought we could all share, on a monthly basis, our small corner of the planet and the things that have happened to us during the month.

If we all knew that by the last day of the month we would all have a new album, however brief, we would all know that it would a little bit more work but perhaps a little bit more fun as well. It might encourage us to keep looking, to keep photographing, and to keep sharing what we have seen. And we would be meeting up 12 times a year in a spirit of friendship and global unity.

In addition we would not need to invite people to our site because they would come anyway, once a month. Some people might not need that as they have busy sites already, but others might welcome it.

So I'm just sending out this idea to all my friends on what in my part of the world is Easter Day, a day of celebration, to share with you my thoughts. Fotki is, after all, much more than just a photo sharing site.

I offer this suggestion across the continents. A suggestion that we all unite through this lovely photo sharing site, and that we all meet up once a month across continents to share our lives and our little part of the world in whatever way pleases us most, and to do this by recording it in monthly albums, however big or small.

A folder called 'Across continents' containing the monthly albums would then be easy to locate when we visit each other.

I am sending this letter to all my friends who, if they choose, might wish to share the idea with their friends. If no-one likes the idea at least I have shared it, and something else might evolve from the sharing.

Have a lovely day whatever your race, colour, or creed, and let's keep having Fun with Fotki.

With best wishes,

Snow.

Dear Lloyd

Yep we're getting hammered. Same storm with thick heavy white stuff. We're expecting about the same accumulation. Weehoo it's winter at last :P. We can't complain though. We got a good storm on Dec. 13 about 2 weeks before winter started and now this one on April 7 - 2 weeks after winter ended LOL.

Hope you and yours have a wonderful Easter holiday (despite the storm).

Hello again Lloyd,

My visit earlier today to your site led me to want to look at your writing. I don't see anywhere to leave a comment on the journal so I'm leaving one here, and hope that is ok.

I just wanted to say how deeply touched I was by your poem 'I am here'. I have never known anybody who has been able to express themselves in the way you have in that poem.

I just came to leave a lighthearted message about the photo contest, to praise your photography which I have noticed and admired, and I feel as though I have been offered a gift in return - although I had no idea that would be the outcome.

Smiles and gratitude that you have had the courage to print your work in such a public forum.

Hello Lloyd,

I am a recent member of Fotki and I have greatly admired your contest entries. Therefore it was with great joy that I noticed five minutes ago that our entries in the 'Time' contest were separated by a mere 5 points (mine trailing behind yours). If yours is in the position in which it is and mine is right alongside it I decided to let you know that I am truly delighted to be in such respected company, no matter where that places us on the leader board.

It's early days for the voting on that contest and perhaps the placings will change dramatically (particularly when I email all my Scottish clansfolk and tell them to vote in hoards of 10's or I'll shoot their haggises [or should that be haggisii?] and shave their sporrans....only joking....about the haggis and the sporrans....haha) but right now I just wanted to say I had no faith in my entry to start with and popped it in for a bit of a giggle and out of curiosity, wondering what other people would enter in this vaguely named contest. Your entry though I think is superb - the photo, the concept, the lot. So keep up the good work; I for one have found it very inspiring.

Smiles
