Hello Lauram--I'm so happy you visited my site several days ago. I always enjoy meeting and making new friends; and I hope you will return again often. I noticed you were born in the beautiful Commonwealth of Virginia. I, too, was born and raised in Virginia; and until 1994, Richmond had been my home during my adult years. My adorable late husband was a Canadian citizen; and upon his retirement from his 43-year career as an engineer, we built our retirement home here in Ottawa, Ontario. There were several Native Tribes located near West Point and Tappahannock--about 30 miles from where my home was located during my youthful years. Were you born in this area of Virginia? With no industry available in this area of Virginia, most of the youth--upon graduation from high school--found it necessary to locate to other areas or states for a career. Once the seafood industry disappeared in the early 60's, there wasn't much in the way of a long-time career available in the counties of Lancaster, Northumberland, Middlesex, Mathews, etc., to keep our youth in the area. While these areas have now grown tremendously over the years, most of the growth has been in the field of retirement homes all along the Rappahannock and James Rivers. As I haven't been to Virginia in 16 years, I would probably need a tour guide to show me around these areas. Since I often read the Rappahannock Record on line, I'm amazed at all the changes which have taken place in recent years. I'm happy to see, however, that many of the older homes and businesses have been declared "Landmarks" and, thus, are still around. I do hope, Lauram, you will return again for a visit. I would truly enjoy getting to know you better in the days and weeks ahead. In the meantime, I hope you and your family will have a fall filled with lots of sunshine, happiness, and good health. Luv ya bunches! Sweet Caroline
