Thanks for the vote!

It is a toy piano for kids..you would press the keys, the heads you see would pop up, the mouths would open.

Actually kind of scary when I think about it :)

Have a great day.

Hi Koby,

Absolutely agree with you about "it must be a some random picture shifting" in contests. Hope they keep their promise :-)

Anatoly

I agree with your statement about the contest pictures order. I usually browse from the beginning and then from the end, thus leaving the middle part unseen. Many others may do the same. I would miss though the opportunity to post my pictures; always looking forward to the new open contests. I will send an email to fotki crew supporting your request.

They are working on changes Koby, but in the meantime why not enjoy the contest for what it is. By not entering you miss out on the interaction and fun, and we miss out on your interaction, so everybody loses.

Hi Koby, thanks for your generous vote in the travel contest. Regarding the voting sytem, this is only my second contest and during/after the first I quickly realised that being on the first couple of pages is a big advantage in the voting - OK I made sure I was ready this time when voting opened, for you this will be inconvenient as it will be about midnight but if you can't beat them, join them.
I would be interested to see the effects of anonymous entries but I don't know how you could quantify any difference it may make.
Shalom.

Hi Koby,
Yes, so many of us here have contacted Fotki regarding the contests with our suggestions and criticisms. Exposure is not "fair" in contests with so many entries, it's true. And I am sure Fotki will eventually figure out a way to improve the set-up, they constantly make improvements but it takes time. With very few exceptions, the best entires in the contests end up in the top 10%, no matter what page they appear on. I also see most votes as being honest. At least in my case, most votes came from people who are not friends. Sometimes they vote high, sometimes they vote low. I've been in the first pages and received a so-so placement, I've been in the same spot and won. Recently, someone won who was in the last pages.
Keep in mind that these contests are open to everyone and in giving points, one can't always judge all entries by the same standards. Sometimes more experienced photographers will get lower scores than beginners who are just starting to experiment.
Anyhow, this is all supposed to be fun. Sometimes we all get worked up over some issue or other, but I am sure Fotki will continue to make positive changes that will affect the contests as well. So I would urge you to just have fun, enjoy the voting, making friends and looking at other people's work.
Best,
Joanna

Your comments regarding the voting are insulting. I give my points because of the the quality or content of the photo. I take the time to look at every photo and vote fairly. If I feel that I cannot give a vote due to content, that is my right. I rarely give no points and the points I do give, I give on merit.

A number of people have made accusations that certain people (including me) play favorites. While that may be true for some, it is so few as to have no effect on the overall voting. It is most certainly NOT true of me nor of the people whom I respect on Fotki.

I agree that the voting system needs to be better explained to those who don't understand it, it does not warrant flooding other people's comment boxes with accusations of favoritism.

Think about it.

If I gave 5 "friends" full marks and they gave their 5 "friends" full marks, and they gave THEIR "friends" (which I do not believe happens more than with a few people and usually with really crappy photos)) full marks, not all of us have the same friends.... The point-base would be so spread out as to have no effect whatsoever.

In fact, the people I give high marks to happen to have photos worthy of the votes.

I am sorry that you don't see it this way.

Hi Koby,
First: Fotki is working on it, why not give them a break????
I respect your opinion but to be honest I think there are much more important things to be worried and upset about than a Fotki contest, expecially now!
Let's start being fair in real life and then we will see...maybe Fotki will follow!
Many members enjoy the participating and the voting and I agree that being on the first page does make a difference! a big difference....but hey, why do you think life is fair? :)who told you??? LOL
Try and see it from a different view, this way you will not gain anything as people will continue and you will be the one who has no fun!
Voting will always be a matter of taste, friends etc...I can tell you that I certainly did not receive the highest votes for my best picture and even in this contest I get a few very very low votes amongst many high ones! I also try to be honest in voting. With 2 contest at the same time and a total of 762 entries it is not possible to have a really close look at all of them except when you don't have a job and you don't need sleep!
