Hi sis, I apologize , I saw that you left me a message many moons ago regarding dryness and I never responded. Are you still having the same issue? I have used shea butter since I've been natural but be careful that you are not heavy handed or you will be left with white hair! I melt some in a lid and use it for twists, sometimes I mix some castor oil in with it. If I use something other than shea butter I'll use Taliah Waajid Protective Mist Bodifier for moisture and I like it a lot. I will spray it on my damp hair before twisting and spritz every couple of days on my twists before taking them down. I don't really like to use it directly on my hair once my twists are down because I lose definition so I will spray it in my hands then put it on my hair. I hope this helps!
Hi there. In regards to the shea butter...it's an excellent moisturizer. Personally, I like to soften it up by melting it a little and putting it on damp hair. I've also found that it helps to minimize shrinkage when done that way. However, you can only apply it in this manner every couple of days b/c if done too often, your head will be a white mess!
You should also try a baking soda treatment conditioner as well. You can find the recipe on youtube. From what I hear it makes your hair REALLY soft. once I take out these micros I am going to give myself one....

I bought the Abba Molasses Purifier at a Local Beauty Supply Store, but I am sure if you do an on-line search it wouldn't be hard to find......I really like it:-)
As for your question why do I have to BC twice? I didn't have to, but I really wanted to and felt that I needed to. It was my first time w/ natural hair and I didn't know how to take care of it. Long story short my ends were a split, notty mess. So I started over.
Trim, trim, trim!! And keep it moisturized, that would have saved me a 2nd BC. But I don't regret it. Again, good luck w/ your transition! :o)
I have a new site if you are interested in joining. It's not ALL about hair, but about uplifting one another in every aspect of life; cooking, relationships, business, raising children, whatever. Check it out when you get a chance. http://fabulousblackwoman.ning.com

Thanks for stopping by and for the add. Congratulations on giving in to the crave! Your straw set is so cute! If only I had known about styles like that when I was transitioning...oh well. Truth is, I probably wouldn't have chopped when I did if I had known, so I guess it all worked out for the best :) Anyway, keep craving...the nappiness is fabulous!!
hey girl...looks like everything is going smoothly for your with your transition. how long do you plan on transitioning? let me know when you have updates. i will be glad to check back in with you....ttyl.
I don't mind sharing what I have learned. My current favorite product can be found in the grocery store. I use crisco. I use as as part of a deep conditioner and as mositurizer. Here is a link about crisco from on of my favorite blogs: http://urbancurlz.blogspot.com/2008/10/crisco-my-miracle-moisturizer.html
