Hi Jim,I was checking out Geof's photo's and saw you there and thought that I would check yours out. I really enjoyed your Snoqualmie Falls album and hope you don't mind that I added you as a friend. I plan to check out more of your albums later if that's ok with you.Kathy

Good morning Jim.......thanks for the visit and the comments; I have replied. I have tried the IR conversion on some old files. Interesting process and I will have more time later to experiment. I will surely try it again as I view the greenery of the Wisconsin summer.........IR seems to work best on the greens, I noticed that.

Hello Jim.....I've enjoyed my time eyeballing some of your stuff. One shot in particular caught my eye....the infrared gravestone. I'm curious about how you achieved the IR result. You mentioned processing it.....so I'm assuming you converted it from a color file. I'd appreciate any info you can give me about this process; IR fascinates me but I'm not willing to sacrifice one of my D-SLRs to try it out. If this effect can be achieved through software, I'd be interested. Presently, I use Photoshop CS4. Can it be done with that program? I'd apreciate any info you could pass my way.

      Hi Mike!
Thank you for the kind comments. Much appreciated.
Like you, I can’t see converting a perfectly good camera to infrared. So, yes, the process is done with software.
I use CS3 (waiting for CS5). But it should be similar in CS4:
Image tab -> Adjustments -> Black and white -> Preset = Infrared
Adjust colors as desired. Contrast settings will have to be set using Brightness/Contrast adjustment.

The process is also available in Photoshop Elements 8 for those who don’t use CS:
Enhance tab -> Convert to black and white -> Select “Infrared effect”
Both color and contrast adjustments can be made here.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.
      Jim

Thanks for the info JIm. I'll give it a shot as soon as I get back home. Right now I'm sitting in a motel in Eagle River, Wisconsin. Interestingly enough, we saew an eagle sitting on the ice in the middle of the river on our drive up. We have an Internet connection here but it's kinda slow. I'll have more time to play a bit around mid week when we get back to the homestead. Thanks for your help...I look forward to your visit.
