I arrived at Glynco in February 1956 as an AGAN and left in May 1959 as an AG1. Married a local gal while there, went back to college (FSU). Returned to Brunswick and built a house on Jekyll Island. Left for a career in the AF and retired in 1984 as a major. Now living in Perry, GA with retreat in the old house on Jekyll.
Great times as a weather observer and forecaster for the blimps at Glynco. Forecasteing enroute weather for two days at 500 AGL was a hoot.
Brother Duane was also there and he eventually retired from the reserves as an 0-6.
Hello Ed, My son Kevin forwarded your web to me. We spent two years at Glynco, my son and his two siblings and my wife as USMC dependents and I as an instructor at the AIC Course during 68-69. Also attended the RIO school there as well as the ATC Course. Glynco has always been one of my favorite duty stations. Regards
Enjoyed the photos, brought back alot of memories. I was onboard along with you. ABF purpleshirt crew leader. Got to hot fuel those babies you took pictures of. Remember when the C2 that was loaded with ships generators was launched. As it went up the generators slid to the back of the plane an it couldnt recover losing it in the water? and all we could do was watch. Thanks for the flash back. Ken
I was Asst Public Works Officer at Glynco from May'60 to July'61. Aircraft at CIC school were WV -2's (SuperConnies configured for air controller training , FJ's (Navt F-86's used as "chase planes") and several Skynights, a twin jet, low hung engine obsolete fighter, also used for "chase". NAS had only a R4D and a SNB (Beechcraft twin engine, same as C-45)plus one helo. I remember NAS well and as a bachelor loved St Simon Is. Good cubs such as Oasis, King and Prince Hotel. Got a question about NAS in those days, ask me.

I belonged to that troup probably a year or two ahead of you...I'm 56 now.. They met once a week on the second floor on the side street leading to the school...I believe the scout masters name was Wagoner..his sons name was Charle as I recall
What street did you live on? I lived on Darien Street and my grandparents live on 7th between Somerset and Cambria...same hundred block as St Bonnies..

Ed, Glad to have found you again. Remember the car on 5/23 and the E-1 at Quonset Point? Or the day the crabs from NARF thought the AV-8's were falling out of the sky? Hope you're doing well, I actually went back on active duty and retired Dec'96. Santa Fe is an interesting area, no oceans.
What great photos! What great memories! I loved the comments about Po City. "Town without pity" & "Kinda dark, and not really in focus!". I still remember the Club Oro, "monkey meat", "Magoos", Viejo Rum, custom engraved belt buckles, whites you could only wear once!, bar snapshots, dirty wrinkled pesos, a "Julie Hubbard, from Hollywood, USA" at the American Legion Club, my first foreign beer, etc. Watta place to "grow-up"! Great time! I was highlined from the Aludra (AR-5?) to Rangerboat in Feb65. Assigned to the OP Division (I.O.I.C.), on the 03 Level. Made Illustrator Draftsman 3rd while aboard. I was also interested in your Naval aviation photos. I never had the joy of flying in the military, but my dad flew the TBF/TBM in WWII, South Pacific. I didn't start my flying until 1990. I flew right over PXT just last month.

Ed: i was on the Ranger from 69 to 73, black shoe OI Div, and enjoyed the photo's you took on my first cruise. I rember the Goldsboro taking the green water.Capt. coleman offered then a smooth ride in our wake and the goldy replied "No thnks. We can hack it" oh those tincan jockies. I remember the whale in the catwalk. Yes we turned to avoid the AGI. subic and the goldy getting hit from shore. clocked the Enterprise at 33 knots that night. I also remember spray on the hander bay and getting the spray up on the 09 level when a good wave hit the lowered elavator. Lots of memeorise great pic's. Thanks Ed. Bill in NY
The Ranger pics were taken the same time I was on board with VF-21. The old Grey Ghost still has strong memories. I remember the Whale (A-3) being dumped in the catwalk. The OOD turned the ship just a little too soon after recovering almost all the air wing.
The F-4 with the rumpled tail feathers was a VF-154 bird that the had hanging over the elevartor just a little too much.
And that's how I remember Po City, kinda dark and not really in focus.

Nice Photos.....reminded me of the ones I have from the Independence 1971 -1975...Va_65 Tigers...NAS Oceana was a Intruder Plane Captain...sure love all these sites and info on the Intruder and Carriers from this era.My plane BuNo 158539 saw action in the Gulf War..I received her brand new in 1972..she is now sitting at Davis-Monthan .......thanks
