Hey Barbara....I used to have a Fotki page but don't anymore.  I still come here to check out everyone's work.  Your stuff caught my eye because I live in Midlothian.  I take about 2-3000 pics a year.  I take a lot of pics on the James, at Lewis Ginter and Maymont as well.  I do go down to Charles City at times and take pics as well.  You have inspired me to get out to the eastern shore.  Keep up the good work.  I love looking at your pictures.

Hello Barbara.....thanks for the visit and comment. I've eyeballed some of your stuff and I see you shoot basketball from quite a distance away. I shoot for the local papers so I get to go right down on the floor....maybe you have different rules in Virginia. I shoot available light only.....Nikon D3 w/50 mm f/1.4 lens. ISO 6400 @ f/4 with + 1/3rd compensation and 1/800th seconds. I can pretty well stop most action at that speed. It helps to have a fast lens and I don't need anything beyond 50 mm. That Nikkor prime 50mm is really sharp all the way to the edges and I can crop significantly and still get nice shots. You should try it right there at courtside....just be prepared to move fast when 400 pounds of dribblers comes your way! I've been meaning to engrave in my viewfinder that "Ball players are closer than they appear."

BTW......my sister lives in Virginia; Smithfield.

I was just a fan at the games...so shot from my seat. Did the pics for a few friends that had kids playing. I do baseball and wouldn't mind getting into the b-ball. If you ever come to visit your sister, let me know.

Thanks for checking out my hockey pictures. I was shooting in Aperture Priority with the ISO set to 1600. My camera store consultant said it was more likely reflections off the ice that sped up my shutter speed on the darker images. This Sunday I am going to try shooting in manual mode with f-stop and shutter speed that we say on almost all of the good images. Besides this rink is not the best to shoot in and most likely has dark areas where pictures in it will never turn out.

Some come take a look next week and see if they look any better.

    Thanks,

I always like to see other people that shoot hockey pictures. I am just getting started and shoot High School Hockey at the moment, so stop over and let me know what you think of my hockey pics if you get the time. The PW to get into the albums is "hockey"

    Thanks,

We love your photography, you are very talented! My dad "Joe Furr Jr." loved the eagle print that you gave him. We can't wait to get it framed for his office.

    Much love,
