Al, I want to thank you for all your time and effort in photographing the International Crane Foundation's Annual Meeting on September 9, 2006. Your images capture the warmth and spirit of the many people who care deeply about cranes and their conservation. Your nature slide show received rave reviews. We deeply appreciate your continued support and contributions!
Al, Your photos are wonderful, I really like all of your bird shots, I am starting to get into birding now and know just how hard those shots are to take!! you make it look easy!
Hi Al, Thank you, and congrats to you with your 4th place! What an achievement. I really loved the photos, they are so special and outstanding. I have seen some of the other photographers too and they have really nice shots too but to be honest...yours just have that extra special twist. Well done! Viviane
Good on you Al! Well done against such quality competition. If they held you out to fourth they must be consummate photographers indeed. Do any of them have their own websites we could check out?
Once again, congrats mate, a fabulous effort. ____________________________________
Peter, Here is the website which has links for most of the photographers participating in the Texas photo contest put on by the Images for Conservation Fund.
Thanks for the link, you're mixing with some vaunted company there mate. I like the objectives of the Pro Tour. It was good seeing you with those guys. I think you're a very humble man. I liked the photo of you in your office? with the photo you use for your fotki account icon on the wall. Those tripods and big lenses look pretty cool. (As does the guy who drives them)
Hi Al, Hope you don't mind that I dropped in for a visit. It had been quite some time since my last visit, so I thought it was time to see your wonderful photos again!! I sure was not disappointed! Had a great time. I will be back to see other albums again. Best from Canada, Sheila
Thanks for the tips. There are a few lenses I'd like to try but they are way over my budget at the moment. Besides, I'm still trying to read & learn how lenses work, what the different features are. It would be nice to have an assortment to try and choose from before buying. Figures I'd get into photography when planning to move and eventually moving out of NY, so I can't go browse in B&H Photo in the city. Perhaps it's a blessing in disguise...we might not have a house bought if I were close to a nice camera shop. :-) I'll keep experimenting, unfortunately all I see around the house & yard here are doves and pigeons and some sort of black birds, but every picture I've tried to take with the zoom lens was a dissappointment. Hummingbirds come around too, but I can't even imagine being fast enough and good enough to manage a snapshot. I guess I'll stick to cats for now and just come visit your albums when looking for winged creatures magnificently photographed. Best, Joanna
Hi Al, I hope you do not mind me dropping in to view some of your albums. A good friend of mine suggested I visit you and that I would be very pleased. enarcadie (Joanna) was correct! She said you took awesome photos and that does not really cover the beauty of what I just viewed. I hope that it would be okay if I returned again to see more of your wonderful work. Best from Canada, Sheila
Hello Al, Just looked at the Sandhill Cranes and Prairie Chickens album in slideshow...it's breathtaking. I am wondering if you would mind sharing what camera & lenses you use most often for these kinds of shots. There's no EXIF data on the pics. I have a Canon EOS 20D and the zoom lens, even with a tripod, keeps dissappointing.(granted I've only had the tripod 1 day :-) Obviously it's a matter of experience, but I'm wondering if my expectations are also off when it comes to this lens. It's a Canon EF USM III 75-300 f4-5.6. Thanks. Best, Joanna
Hi Al, Just a quick message to inform you I finally decided and went for the Canon. I will see how it goes with the tilting LCD screen...I can always switch to the Olympus later, there is big demand for Canon. I have a 18-200mm on it and I also bought a 90 mm f2.8 macro lens. I must admit it is really scaring me, I cannot really focus very accurate with it yet but it has good quality so I should be patient and learn! Viviane ____________________________________
Viviane,
Congratulations on your camera and lens purchase. I assume you bought the Canon 350D as it is known in Europe. I know this was a tough decision for you. One thing to keep in mind is that you can buy a right angle viewer which can be used for those times you want a waist level viewer as in macro photography. I believe it also has a 2X multiplier zoom to focus more easily.
Hiya!!!I hope you are fine.I visit your website and I must say you have greats snaps of birds and each snaps are much wonderful which touch my heart.I really enjoy to watch those. They are too many that I cannot watch all of them just few hours.I need some time to watch all snaps of urs album. So,I'll back again to enjoy yours wonderful job.Untill now take care and Good luck...:-)~Ummah M.Doughty~
