Hello!! I'm actually trying to track down Geoff Hanzlik - I did a google search for him and it brought me to your page --- can you forward my email to him: bgeffen@gmail.com or email his contact info?
I have to confess that I like sunsets and flowers, but I also enjoy seeing pictures like yours in the recent Weekly contest. Please don't stop submitting this kind of pictures - it truly makes the contests diverse. I like to see what other fotkins see around the world (the best part of the contests) - and they certainly see more than just pretty things.
P.S. I have to come back and look through albums more - very interesting.
Congrats for fifth place in "Stormy ..", great picture of Shasta, it could do better in this tight competition. NJ

Hi John
Thanks for your message. You actually beat us by a lot more than you think. Check it out:
YOURS: Place 17 Average score: 6.2 Total score: 1259 Votes/Views: 203/401
OURS: Place 18 Average score: 5.95 Total score: 1243 Votes/Views: 209/470
So your average was .7 ahead of us which is quite significant in a contest like this. You got more points with less votes than us. If they had used average score to calculate the winners, you would have placed closer to 10th place. We've been pushing to get them to use the weighted mean in their calculations which would give more weight to higher points given and less to lower points given. I really don't think Fotki knows what the hell they're doing from one contest to the next. Oh well.
Take care and keep clicking Barb

Hi John, Just saw and voted on your entry in the "Time" contest - 10! Fabulous capture and 'action' Photography. I live in Eugene! Nice to see a photo of my town in the contest. I wish you sucess in the contest. Linda
Don't know why I "googled" you today, but since I did and found this site I thought I'd write. It's been almost 30 years, I think, hasn't it? Lots of time and water under the bridge. Still in Ashland? I'm north of you in Cottage Grove, have been since '92. Thought of you when I drove thru Ashland last summer for the first time in many years.
Anyway, I just thought I'd say hello, re-connect as it were. Here's hoping you're healthy and happy.
You know what, John (presumably), since they started the new format, I don’t vote in the contests at all!
The first time, I skipped through the photos not knowing that I couldn’t go back and vote. Since then, I still skip through them all even though I know that I am not rewarding anyone with stars. I love doing it this way – I have no pressure or regrets.
When that first photo pops up, how are you supposed to know if it’s the best or the worst until you’ve seen the other photos?
So, I essentially vote with my comments. And in my personal opinion, I would rather have a six with a nice comment than an anonymous 10.
I make a lot of smart-alecky comments too, and am more rewarded when I get an LOL from one of those, than I’m ever going to feel from a vote on my own photo. (Of course, I’m a terrible photographer, so that’s easy for me to say.) If I ever get a ROTFLMAO, than that makes my whole year.)
Regarding your shopping cart – I like the photo, and I thought it was perfectly on theme. Some voters read too much into the theme, and some completely disregard it. So you should never be discouraged by the results of the contest. It’s much more important to enjoy the process than the results.
Thank you so much for the link to the house photo! I left you a message under it. Best from Canada, Sheila
