actually, it shows always the virtual last gift you got ... just switched all gifts to private .. can you still see one on my avatar ?

========

No, that did it, well done mate. This is the response I got from fotki:

Hi Peter,

Thank your for feedback. At the moment you can't completely turn the gifts features off. However you can restrict others from sending you virtual gifts. Please click on Go To > My Account > General > Allow sending of virtual gifts for > set to > My Fotki Friends Only.

We will discuss the possibility to add an OFF option with our developers and will find the appropriate solution.

Your Fotki Team.

"Yeah me too, I can't find a setting to turn it off. "

...once you find this heavenly bottom to e.g. put your romantic
heart back to where it belongs, wd you mind informing me straight on ?-)))

=========

No worries,

I've noticed several people's avatars don't have them, so perhaps they haven't received any virtual gifts, but there doesn't seem to be an option to turn that off now (there was at the start) The whole virtual gift saga is merely additional fundraising for fotki, at first it was free.

I'll send a message to fotki & ask them how to turn it off.

However I DO like the options that come up when you scroll over the avatars in GB's now.

My Photo of the Week (August 24-30)

"Rolling Stones....I always figured you to be a rocker...... :-)) what was the name of your band?"*
"Pebbles & Bam Bam !!"**

Buddies, can't you not stay a single second serious … surprisingly, watching this entry badly bobbing up and down in the last two hours I recognized finally that this photo shows Sisyphus’s playing grounds.

:-))) wishing you all a perfect mood for the weekend ahead and thanks your motherly and fatherly comments

Joachim

Nb: I hate fotki blighting my stylish avatar so badly

… the tiny, small, sugar sweet not yet obstinate donkey , still a little short of breath, likes to thank you sooo much for all your pushing but he still felt a little too shaky to make it all the way up to the “I'm So Lucky!” podium …

It WAS a big trip for such a little guy. You're welcome !!

Shall forward it to him !!!

Hey Peter -- Thanks for the comment on the motorcycle... it was one that I had taken last year and really liked... soooo my visits to the contests will be brief... seems that I have too much other crap going on to do this crap...lol..

Thanks for commenting on my photo in the motorcycle contest, Pedro.

I don't know if you noticed, but the jacket of the motorcyclist who subsequently became a Fotkipoid, read "route 66 devils." So my first inclination was to put the back of a great big Dr Evil head on him. In retrospect, perhaps I made a bad choice.

I hope all is well with you, Alex and the boys.

Thanks for the comments, UhOh... you asked if the one photo was form "THE" Route 66... there is only ONE Rte 66.. it stretched from Chicago to Los Angeles. So, yup, that is the famous Rte 66... or what is left of it. Most of it has been replaced by modern highways or Interstates that parallel it wherever there are small portions left. The longest remaining stretch is in Arizona but each state has renamed it as a different number, so there is no Rte 66 any longer. I look out my back window and see the 2nd longest portion remaining, about a mile out my back door... it runs for about 25 miles or so and is now Highway 153.... though historical markers do indicate it is the "old Rte 66".

Interestingly (the preacher in you will like this), there was a "spur" of Rte 66 outside Gallup, New Mexico (60 miles west of me) that was named Rte 666. They have changed the name of that highway, too, since they couldn't keep up with the highway signs being constantly stolen as souvenirs.

Hi Peter!

Thanks for the welcome! I was missing the whole bunch, too!
Just a lack of time, you know. Wish I could be here more often!

Hope you and your precious family are well! How's church life?

Be blessed my brother down there!

I'd love to go and shoot the rally, but I have football finals (soccer) on the Sat midday... (yes, I play football in my old age).... So, I'm hoping to make it to a stage on the Sunday and would love to capture a car flying thru the air over a brow of a hill, or sideways at 160klm...will let you know how I go ( just go to church and forget that I even mentioned the Rally event..lol). I'll repent later for going....

========

ha ha I'm playing hookie for the Bathurst V8's this year too. Those rally drivers are lunatics eh. Two of my wife's cousins are rally drivers.

Hi Peter,
I replied to the question re the formula 1.
We have a round of the World Rally Championships up here this weekend in Kyogle. My son is volunteering as a race official

:-)) yes I know by now that ya crazy about HDRs … and I have fun to watch your touched up shoots

… just over the time I got the feeling that HDR makes – to some extend – all pics somehow similar, i.e. detracting, better, outshining the actually literal information of the very shoot with that, what you call "fresh perspective” … funny, despite the enhancement of brilliance to me all these pics have a flavor of sadness

Have a great day,
joachim

==========

I should rephrase that & say it gives a sense of freshness "to me". I work as a travelling sales rep & drive through a lot of rural areas and have taken a lot of traditional photos over that extensive area that I cover. HDR has let me shoot the same scenes with a "fresh to me" perspective. There are many scenes for which HDR is not suitable of course, especially anything with movement.

One of the things I really enjoy about fotki is the exposure it gives us to many different styles that we can pursue if we see somethign we like simply by asking the photographer how they did it. Very rarely have they not been helpful, most of the time they are the exact opposite - very helpful.

---
Yeap, ya right, I do enjoy the community … you just can chose what ya keen about and, besides some non hurting critters & fritters :-))) I crossed only kind, enjoyable and helpful people. Well mate, see you in the contests “battles”

hi peter
thank you and yeah, take that robert!! lol. i really didnt expect it to do that well. i dont enter the da that often because i am not good at it like most on here are. when i do, it is something simple. those ones where you add stuff is impossible for me to get to look right. thats why i was asking the question that robert flipped out over. thanks again

… thanks so much your supporting comments for my DA entry this week which I enjoyed as usually :-))

… although it came out quite OK (however nothing more) I’m not very convinced about all this heavily used HDR and filter techniques as long as not applied carefully just to support the original photographs where it is needed. Latter shall be the way how I gonna use these in future incl. for the multi-layer pics I may create as another way of artistic composition.
Unfortunately there were again some great pictures in this contest which – like in all the others – are bobbing up and down in the backyards for what reason ever, but certainly not an objective one.

... wishing you a blessed and wonderful week, Joachim
