I have been wearing -5.50 and -4.25 (plus my astigmatism correction)this is -0.75 more than my newest prescription I have also increased the reading add to compensate .I have found the sharpness incredible shoud I go for another -0.50 in both eyes ?I am 50 years old

Brad, do you have any natural minus rx? I'd love to know. Or do u just wear contacts so you can wear minus glasses? It's ok if you do, cos i understand why. Minus are kool. anyway i really need them, so i have to wear them!! It's still kool though. love gemxx

Hi Brad, great to see your post. of course glasses over contacts are o.k. if you can't focus through thick minus glasses. i don't need contacts cos my eyes can cope with them and hopefully i can push them even higher at my age. go for it Brad. gemxx let me know how it goes Brad

Hi Gemma, you are right I should just come out with my real feelings & start wearing the strong glasses a lot more often in public, & around people. I mean it's what I like so I shouldn't worry about what other people think. Maybe I'll give it a try, you don't think wearing glasses over contacts is weird??? Thanks for listening Gemma!

Hi Bryan, i'm really touched by your concern about my long term vision. the thing is my mum is terribly short sighted so its obviously been passed on to me and when i first got glasses as a kid i was amazed what a difference they made to my life. from then on i've wanted stronger and stronger lenses cos i love seeing things so sharp and clear. i've had to cheat at eye tests cos opticians here always underprescribe kids which isn't fair. i think my eyes have been causing me problems recently cos i gave them too much to cope with last time, but i've learnt my lesson now. i've decided i just want to get to -16.00 and then i'll be happy cos Esther on lenschat wears -16.00s in rimless and she says they are really thick and cool. love gemxx

Hi Brad, I read your post. My -12.00s are great and when I first got them my distance vision was really good. I don't have any problems going out and being seen in thick glasses and love wearing them such a lot. I feel so cool and special in them. All my friends accept them and it just wouldn't be Gemma without them. You should brave going out in them Brad and enjoy seeing people looking at you in them. It's amazing. love gemxx

Well Gemma, I sincerely hope that you are smart enough to stop this foolishness, and get your eyes looked at by a proper doctor. Blind is forever, and while you might want to be very nearsighted, you definately do not want to damage your eyes. You could try to ask your mother if she has any old glasses you could wear to see if you need stronger glasses already, because your own do not seem to be doing the job properly for you anymore, and then you could go to see the optician wearing an old pair of your mom's. That way no one will know that you boosted your prescription. You likely have put the 2 pairs of her old glasses that you used before back in their proper place, so you could use the stronger one of those pairs. Or if the stronger ones you have been messing around with work, you might be able to use them. But if your focus is going out, you are likely in for some long term problems.

That sounds great Gemma! I wish I had the guts you have. I wear GOC from time to time but I can't get myself to go out into public with them. I had a lady come by the other day to do some measurements for new carpet in my house & I happen to be wearing them at the time so I let her in while wearing my -11.75 glasses. She seemed to stare quite a lot, that was kind of exciting. I would like to eventually wear thick glasses most the time but we'll see.

Hi Brad, Mmy focus is not too bad now but I think my distance vision is going worse again so hopefully it will mean thicker glasses during the Christmas holls. Thanks for your encouragement. It's not always easy but my eyes are coping quite well now. Gemma xx

Hanna, it's difficult going to the opticians cos my glasses aren't what they prescribed me and i can't manage with my old ones now. i don't know if i need stronger or what. i'd like stronger but i don't know if my eyes will take it anymore. Kirsty says they are quivering again all the time, that's why they won't focus. i'll just have to hope they settle down again and see what happens. i hope you get stronger on Friday. it will be much better when you do. gemx

I think you should tell your parents that your focus is so bad and you MUST consult an eye-doctor immediately! Your myopia is very progressive and it´s irresponsible if you haven´t the strongest glasses you need. My distance vision is only in the early morning a little better now, but during the day and in the evening it´s terrible blurry. I am sure that I need stronger glasses. Next Friday I´ll go for a check-up to my doctor and I am afraid of his diagnosis.

Hi Vicky, thanks for your post. i first got my own glasses at 8 after i'd been wearing my sisters old ones for just over a year and by then i needed -1.75 and -2.00. when i first tried them on it made me feel so good i just wanted stronger and stronger ones every year. i've cheated at the opticians quite a lot to get the clarity i wanted and nowi don't mind how thick i go providing things look sharp and small. it's hard to describe the amazing sensation i get everytime i put stronger glasses on and i can see really clearly with them. i suppose you can partly understand if you are already as high as you are. love gemx

Gemma, do you really like wearing very thick glasses? I started with mine at 5 and although my mum warned me not to wear them all the time, I soon fell into the trap of leaving them on all day at school. Then when I got home and she made me take them off I hated things looking so blurry. After a while she gave up nattering me so by 6 I was a wearing glasses full time. Its been all down hill ever since with stronger lenses every year and now at 19 I'm up in the -16.00 -17.00 region. I'm hoping my eyes will stabalise soon but there is definitely no sign of it doing yet. I just though you should know, that's all. Obviously I don't mind wearing glasses now, but there is guarentee your eyes will stay at -19.00 once you get there. love Vicky

Hi Gemma, I'm with Brad on this. If you can get your rx up to -14.00 and -14.75 your glasses should be really thick and you'll love them. Go for it Gemma you're a real little gem. Love Paul

Brad, Just to let you know i'm actually working on increasing my rx by -2.00 at the moment. if i'm successful it will get me to RE-14.00 and LE-14.75 which is quite good for my age. i'll let you know how it goes. gemma
