I can't admit it out of OO circles and I'm even embarrassed to admit in in places like Lens Chat, but I do like it when the doctor makes my prescription get stronger. It's so hard to explain my emotions. I just feel real good when it happens and I look forward to it. I don't think I'd like having -19 glasses like you're aimimg for, Gemma, but I think I'd look good and feel very happy wearing ones that were -13 or -14. I don't know if my eyes will change that much more since they seem to be slowing down, but I wouldn't mind it at all.

Hi Gem - It's a shame you haven't got myodiscs yet. Did you ask the optician for them? I guess it's only a matter of time before you have to have them though...

Hi Emily, I've just read your post and i really wish we could be friends. I feel just like you do about being short sighted and keep getting stronger glasses. It's such an amazing feeling seeing things smaller and clearer each time you get stronger lenses. Also i've really learnt my lesson about cheating at the opticians. Chris my new one is really nice and he has told me he will give me the proper correction i need if i go back to hime regularly which i'm so thrilled about. I know i'll get even worse and need still sronger glasses and i hope the same thing happens to you Emily for quite a while yet. we must chat again on lenschat really soon. gem.

Hi, Tony and Gemma, and thanks for your support. In my previous posts, I wrote about my desire to have nearsighted children, but I also really like getting more nearsighted myself. It's a totally emotional, non-rational feeling, but nonetheless very real. I just get really excited when I go for an exam and the doctor does things like turn the lenses in the machine so that the chart starts looking smaller (I know what that means!) or announce that I need stronger glasses.

Since I started wearing glasses, I've had 13 prescriptions and you'd think I'd be getting tired of all those increases, but I still enjoy it and hope my eyes keep changing. I get a strong buzz when I put on new glasses that make everything look so intense. Plus, I'm addicted to power rings -- I think they look gorgeous.

My main difference with you, Gemma, is that I've never played around with my prescription. I get an honest exam and fill whatever prescription the doctor gives me. But I am glad that each prescription is higher than the one before. Even though I'm over -10, I wouldn't at all mind if my prescription increased to -13 or -14 or so.

andrew, i forgot to tell you, as you can imagine now i can barely see a thing without glasses, which i really like. then i love pushing them on and watching everything come into really sharp focus. it gives me a real buzz. myopia is great, i love it. gemxx

Hi paul, if your 11 year old daughter is now on her third pair of glasses she will definitley want to wear them all the time. when she gets to high school her myopia should start progressing much faster so be sure to take her for regular check ups so she gets stronger lenses. by 15 she should be doing really well and maybe have reached the -7.00 region which looks really nice on teenagers. gem.

Tony, your two daughters sound really sweet. i'm 16 and very short sighted and i simply love wearing glasses, so perhaps your girls do as well. if you take them for regular check ups and they keep getting stronger lenses their eyes will definitley get worse without any probs. best of luck. gemma.

Em, there's no need to feel awful about wanting kids who need glasses, as it's likely that both yours and mine will inherit our myopia like we've done from our mums. i love it when my sister gets stronger ones, cos' she looks so cute in them. the only problem is if we have boys who need glasses cos' if they need thick ones they can look pretty geekish. glasses look best on girls, especially thick ones cos' they make them look helpless and vulnerable. Chris my boyfriend says i look really sexy in mine and they make him want me more, which i really like. c u soon gem.

Hi Andrew, I'm not wearing my -12.00's now cos' with them my distance vision had gone realoy blurred again. Chris my new optician has given me some special Swiss hi index glasses that are -14.00 and -14.75 and everything looks amazing clear again including my close focus. He says i've got chronic progressive myopia, but as long as he keeps an eye on me it's nothing to worry about. I'm having another check up at Christmas as i'll probably need increase in the new year, so everything's going really well. i never wanted hi index before but they are great and much clearer than ordinary lenses so now i want them all the time. it's looking as though i'll easily get to -19.00 without any problems, so i don't need to worry about it anymore. love gemx.

Hi Emily, I enjoyed reading your posts. Yes my wife's eyes are worse now then when we first met. Her current glasses are -12.50 & -13.75 with slightly less for her contacts. My two daughters are very dear to me and like you I wouldn't do anything to make them more short sighted than they are, but even so it gives me an huge buzz when they come out from having their eyes tested and tell me they need stronger lenses. Of course I love helping them choose new frames and let them have whatever they fancy regardless of cost. You sound an amazing girl Emily, why didn't we meet up sooner? Tony.

Zoe and Heinz,

You are right. I am very private about my obsession, and I would never do anything to hurt my children, like tamper with the prescription the doctos gives them. I just hope they inherit the "right" genes -- that is to say, the ones that will make their eyes get very nearsighted. And as you know, that's beyond my control!

Dear Emily,
first of all we are very astonished about the way you think about your futural children. In fact that they will surely get your nearsightedness, the probability that they'll get the same fetsihism as you have is really low. In our opinion it is very important to pull the line between your own fetishism and the way you treat your children. We are quite sure that you will find a way between the nice look that you'll have by watching your nearsighted children, included the way living your fetishism, and their own preferences concerning their nearsightedness and the way to correct it.
To respect this border is very important, regarding the relationship between children and parents.
Kindest regards,
Zoe and Heinz

I was very gratified to see that I'm not alone in wanting my children to be nearsighted. I have very nearsighted eyes (currently -10 and still getting worse). I love watching people have their eyes examined. I've watched my brother (4 times), my sister, my ex-b/f, and several friends. I get very excited watching the doctor make the lenses in the machine get stronger.
Two weeks ago I watched the doctor increase my brother's glasses from -5 to -6 (he's 13). Sometimes I imagine taking my (future) children for eye exams and watching the doctor turn up the power of their lenses too. It gets me very excited. This seems very mean of me, I know, except that I like it when the doctor turns up the dial on my own eyes.
Tony, you mentioned that when you met your wife, she was 19 (same age that I am now) and had -7 glasses. Have they gotten stronger since then?
Guest Andrew wrote: Saturday, 5 November, 2005 - 21:43
Do you mean, Gemma, that your eyes are now the -12.75, -12.00 that you have been wearing, but you have got an extra couple of dioptres on thop of that?
Guest Tony wrote: Friday, 4 November, 2005 - 11:24
I just looked in Paul and saw your post. Lucky you your wife sticks to her glasses, they sound really nice and -5.00 is a decent rx. Your daughter sounds a little cutie, what frames does she have? If she's now wearing her glasses full time, you'll find once she gets to high school her eyes will deteriorate quite quickly. Take her for regular check ups, it usually helps if they given stronger lenses regularly. Just a tip!

Hi Tony, Great to read your post. My wife is also shortsighted and although she's only around -5.00 she's stuck to glasses ever since we were married 12 years ago. Recently she needed a slight increase and I helped her choose some nice new rimless ones which she looks gorgeous in. We only have one daughter who is 11 and is now on her third pair of glasses which she wears full time. Like you, rather wickedly, I can't wait for her next increase and I'm hoping that when she gets into her teens her eyes will start changing more rapidly. Yours two girls sound little treasures and must look amazing in their current glasses.

Hi everyone! What an interesting read. It's so good to realise I'm far from alone in enjoying strong negative glasses. Like Tony, I enjoy seeing GWGs and to this day I enjoy my wife's appearance in about -5D. I wear -13.5D glasses much of the time but also use contacts. Like Gemma, I feel rather comfortable in strong glasses and it seems that people relate to me in them in a slightly modified way, which I like. Why do we like negative glasses?
Guest Tony wrote: Thursday, 3 November, 2005 - 9:10
For almost as long as I can remember I've been fascinated by gwgs and when I met my wife at 19 she was wearing some very attractive -7.00s. Unfortunately by the time we were married she'd decided to get contact lenses so I only have the pleasure of seeing her in glasses morning and at night. However both our daughters had to get glasses when they started school and every year since they've needed an increase. Happily niether of them seemed bothered by it and the younger one who is 13 is now wearing -6.00s and the elder one at 15 -7.00s. I love taking them to school each morning in their high school uniforms and watching them walk in wearing their thick glasses and can't wait for them to need thicker ones. Are there any other Dad's out there who derive so much pleasure out of seeing their myopic daughters in strong glasses?

Have you thought any more about myodiscs Gemma?
Guest Gemma wrote: Wednesday, 2 November, 2005 - 11:02
I don't know why people come on here making stupid comments. it's supposed to be about glasses and problems like that. also people who are interested in glasses, not silly people like the last post.
