Just a note to say thank you for voting for my picture. Im hardly a real photographer. However, when I saw this terrible scene while on Ngamba last summer, I had to snap a picture to show my family when I returned. East Africa is an incredible part of the world. It is a part of the world filled with stunning opposites: poverty and wealth; beauty and ugliness; illiteracy and sophistication; health and sickness. I was there for a reading conference at which I made a presentation to teachers from multiple African nations entitled, Creating Hope Through Reading. Attached to that and due to the generosity of many friends, I took 3000+ childrens books. We distributed them on the streets and gave them to teachers to take to their schools. The depth of enthusiasm and appreciation for this priceless gift has humbled me and made an impact on me that will last for the rest of my life. We have so much. Anyway, forgive me for being so wordy. Its hard to talk about that trip briefly. Best of luck to those of you who show us the world through a photographers eye with such talent and skill. Consider a trip to Africa. As a couple of my friends told me, It will change you forever. Gods blessings to you, Gloria Reading, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Edwardsville, IL.
