Gary - here's a link to the few photos that I posted...like I said, I let Kevin do most of the picture taking...he really enjoyed this place called New Haven.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hi Susi!!! Thanks for the link!!! I viewed about 1/4 or the 300 or so pix with the slideshow as you suggested!!! It worked great... I kept stopping to see certain ones,,, You got a lot of great shots in there... nice!!! I will be back tomorrow... eyes are shutting on me!!! Thanks again!!! Gary
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ok,,, just saw and left messages on the new one!!! Gary
Hi Gary Thanks for the postcard it arrived today. You sure got around and on many different types of transport. Irene
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Hi Irene!!! Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,,, I am so glad that you got your postcard!!! Myra, Viviane and now Peter Molenar from the Netherlands got theirs also... Since I mailed them out on the 14th of Feb. I was thinking that perhaps they got dropped into a trash can instead of a mail bin '-((( But now that some are received they should all be ok '-))) Whew... glad about that... Sorry for the sort of spam label... but it's the only way... I used to write out in long hand about 75 each time but it takes two full nights and lots of writers cramp. Since I know my itinerary in advance I can be pretty accurate with the details... And just so that you know, as it turned out the synopsis was right on... Hope all is ok there in Tarbet... I think of you, Don, Mack and Roy often... latr Gary...
I am glad to see you are safely back home..:):) I just visited your Saigon album.. It is a real eye opener........... Fantastic photography...... on a very human level.. You touched my heart....... Down here on this rainy day in Georgia..... Full size hugs and much love, Marilyn :):)
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hi Marilyn!!! It was a great night... And now some of these kids are emailing me with letters where I fix their English and send back the corrected letter... Geeeeee... didn't know I was gonna be an English teacher... Thanks for your many lovely comments messages on my Vietnam pix!!! So nice!!! Gary
PS... I put some other responses there as well... thanks for all your many and great comments!!! I just read them all!!! Gary
Thanks, Gary, for the beautiful card..... gosh you are well organised for these trips, aren't you. I did appreciate your taking the time to include me in your mailing list, I have never had a card from Vietnam before, so it will go into my collection. Another friend of mine was there recently but did not send me a card (she did bring me a pressie though). Much appreciated, Gary. I will get through all your photos eventually. Slainte Myra
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Thanks Myra for letting me know you got my postcard and the nice message(s) that you left for me!!! You and Irene were the first to get it!!! That's funny!!! All the way from Vietnam to Scotland... I would think that Peter in Oz would have gotten his first,,, etc... Good luck at the gym at 1 each day... That's funny cause with the 5 hour time difference of you and me... we actually go about the same time (in real time) each day... Take Care!!! Gary
Hi Gary - so glad you could enjoy seeing Yale and New Haven thru Kevin's camera lens...I think he enjoyed himself...now all you have to do is hop the train and I'll pick you up at the station and give you the tour as well...really, New Haven has so much to offer and it really is a cameraman's delight. Yale as you already know is amazing. So you know you have the invitation...just say when..
Hugs Susi
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> That sounds great, Susi!!! Mid April!!! Gary
Hi Gary! Thank you very much for the lovely card! spamming eh? I had a good laugh bout that! It sounds like you had a great holiday...I a looking forward to seeing all the pictures...oh well, all...most of them anyway! I bet you will have hundreds...thousands??? I have not been around a lot, sorry for that...we are rather busy and excited! Chwhynny is getting her two master degrees on Friday so we have a few things to plan and sort out. She might do a PHD after this but as universities are short in money it will all depend on finances. It was cool hearing from you, take care and have a good beauty sleep! ;) Viviane
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hi Viviane!!! Thanks for all your many comments in my Vietnam Album,,, very nice!!! And thanks for letting me know you got my postcard too... I was worried about that since I mailed them out Feb 14th... But I guess it'll be ok for the rest to show up this week around the rest of the world...
I liked your statement about I spammed you!!! That was great!!! Actually, at 102 postcards going out it has become the only way... I can't afford two nights of up all night writing anymore... This idea worked pretty well and the information was correct as I knew my itinerary ahead of time...
Best Wishes to the family and Congrats to your Daughter!!! Have a great day on Friday!!! Gary
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> PS... I put replies like this one on many of the comments you left in case you wanna have a look to see some answers... >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> No, No Viviane!!! Water Tanks... the city water pressure is never enough to push the city water up to the top floors of a building SO,,, people have pumps that pump the street level city water up to their own water tanks on their rooftop... From there it is gravity fed to the floors below at good pressure... I am going to set system up at my barn!!! Gary
Hi Gary, I'm glad to hear and see that you enjoyed my favorite part of the world : ) I travel often between Europe and Thailand and take direct flights. The connecting flights will wear you out. Thanks for sharing your travel albums.
Ann
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Thanks for your visit Ann and accurate comment about the connectiong flights!!! I had toooooo many!!! And that is where alot of time was wasted hanging around... trying to cat nap but more like being a human ZOMBIE '-)))
Now I am home for 1 week and feeling normal again... WOW,,, Lots of Pix to sort out... will do this week (maybe '-)))
Hi Gary, Welcome back home ! Susi was an amazing host for our New Haven outing. I only hope I can do as well during our Central Park get together in the spring . I finished the album http://public.fotki.com/kevinkevbo/misc/2008_03_02/ . Which means I now have time to check out the rest of your pictures from Viet Nam. I promise to get to them soon.
Be Well, Kevin
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Nice Going Kevin!!! Thanks for the link... Glad that you and Susi had a great day and all worked out fine... Nice Album!!! Geeeeeee,,, you guys had really good weather!!! Love the blue sky in many of your shots!!! Best Wishes!!! Gary
Hi Gary, Thanks for checking in and your get-well wishes. I am glad you had what looks to be an outstanding trip and that you are back safely.
Yes, I will be shot down for several more days. What started out as a common cold ended up with me in the ER with a ruptured ear drum. That, of course, carries with it a sever case of vertigo. I am starting to recover, but I will not be allowed to drive for a while.
Janet and I were very disappointed to miss our trip to New Haven on Sunday. We will reschedule it. We are also looking forward to meeting with you later this Spring.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Uhhhhhhhhhhh,,, Peirce!!! That does not sound good at all!!! Take it easy and get well soon!!! I will be thinking of you and wishing good health... Yes,,, I am anxious too for our visit this spring... We will make sure that everyone is feeling up to it. I am very flexible and can change weekends on short notice,,, no problem so don't worry about that, my friend... See you latr!!! Gary
Hi Gary, thanks for the stop by. You have lots of wonderful pictures. I will come back and entertain myself for some time when I can. Please stop by my place anytime. I'll be having my 51st in a few days so I can relate. Your Vietnam pictures are wonderful. My memories of Vietnam are mostly the stats and the images from the evening news ala Cronkite. They are etched in my mind forever. Pleased to make your acquaintance!
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Thanks so much for your visit!!! Yes,,, I had those same images as you from the news back in the 60's and early 70's as you mentioned about the Vietnam War (which in Vietnam is called the American War) I had to go and see for myself the reality of the images that I have carried all these years since I was too young to be drafted or to serve in the Military then... Happy 51st Birthday!!! I am 53... so we can relate!!! Stop by anytime!!! Best Wishes!!! Gary
Hey there Gary - welcome home - and thanks for stopping in. Peirce was feeling badly this weekend so he couldn't make it to New Haven, but I had a surprise for them. Kevin was going to join us so when Peirce had to cancel Kevin still headed in. We spent the day at Yale, Peabody and lunch at an Irish Pub called Anna Liffeys before heading onto Lighthouse Point Park to walk the beach. Wait until you see his pics...they will be great. It was gorgeous sunshine and Yale is fascinating. I let him do most of the photography because I was enjoying watching him enjoy. Again, glad your home safe and sound. Will be back soon to take a peek at the rest of the pics. We've got 50' degree weather today....whoohooo ! Hugs Susi
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hey Susi!!! Good for you and Kevin... always making the best of things... Sorry to Hear about Peirce not feeling well... I will have to stop by and wish him well... Glad that you had a nice day with Kevin and all went well... Yes,,, what a great start to March 08... Love the Sunshine!!! Send me the link when you get your stuff posted!!! Thanks, Gary
Zela is a monarchy - a kingdom in the far regions of the human mind. So far away that it's hard to grasp the distant just by numbers. Let "Ursa Major" lead you, and you're in the right direction.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> WOW,,, kinda weird... not really into monarchys, not even my own '-))) Best Wishes however in your journey Aicani,,, GaryGS1 in Nj=USA

Cheers!
Tom
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Thanks for your reply Tom!!! Best Wishes to you!!!
PS... I added you to my friends list... hope that is ok... Gary
Hi I use a online site www.finetune.com Its very easy to do...Im glad you liked it..I just wish you could add it to albums for friends to listen too as they look at the photos. Thanks D
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Thanks D!!! I will check that out!!! Yes, it would be nice to have some tunes playing... while viewing pix... that always adds an element of interest, especially when the internet is slow and pages take more than seconds to load...
One awkward option is to have a link to a music page in an album description (or somewhere handy) that can be clicked on and would open in a different window and plays in the background... I do that with my own sometimes but since everyone has their windows set up differently it is hard to explain to others. If you wanted to experiment with more music solutions may I suggest that you try our your Fotki Journal Features... I have some music info here in mine ---> http://journals.fotki.com/GaryGS1/Music/ Best Wishes!!! Gary
Hi Gary Goodness, you're quick!!!! I was still loading pictures while you were commenting. Glad you are home safe, and that you had such a great time. The pictures are really good, Gary, and give a great insight into an entirely different culture....... we have a lot to be thankful for, but it doesn't always make us happy, does it? Yes, I know the problem of sorting out the pictures after a trip, it is a part that I enjoy but it is very time consuming. Don't work too hard now you are back, remember some ME time. BTW I know you are into working out at the gym, you may be amused to know that Bob and I have been going regularly since before Christmas and are getting a bit addicted to working out. Nothing too hard though, but keeps us supple (we hope) and fit. Enjoy the coming week. Slainte Myra
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Supple is good '-))) Have a nice evening Myra,,, thanks for your entry and nice comments... Gary
Hi Gary (wherever you are), Thanx for replying to my query. For some mysterious reason I couldn't connect to the Fotki site at all for @48 hours Thursday thru Saturday, although all my other internet/browser features were working fine during this time. That gave me a goood scare 'cause I've put about 15G of pix up on the site in the past 6 or 7 years, and I foolishly started to imagine the w-o-r-s-t case scenario --- aka "Fotki Meltdown". I also came to realize that I only had the old Fotki office phone # written down, and as I live in Canada the US toll free customer service # isn't available to me. Fortunately everything popped back up this morning as regular as can be. (I've since noted down all the up-to-date contact info --- in order to avoid any future panics) FYI, I sent you an email because, while scrambling for ways just to find out what might be going on, your name came to mind as one of the top 'Fotkins' (whose stuff I've read countless times while surfing the site) and as someone who seems very well connected vis-a-vis all things Fotki. If there was any kind of real meltdown in progress, I figured that you would be aware of the circumstances. Thankfully, I had my finger on the panic button quite unneccessarily. Whew. The biggest irony here is that I had actually taken Thursday off work with the express intent of spending the day catching up on several months of uploads and a LOT of editing --- well, ain't that Murphy's Law !
Cheers, Slideshowphil
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hi Phil!!! Glad it all worked out!!! Yes,,, that would be a scare... I have about the same as you... Although, I have everything on hard drive back up and also on individual CD And DVD disks (it's sort of a mish mosh from over the years of changing how I saved things,,, it would be a nightmare to have to upload all again and probably would never do it. Plus all the comments and other work would be gone... let's not think about that... '-(((
Just keep your originals safe and in order in two places... best quality disks (CD's or DVD's) as even these are said to now deterioate over time, as well also keeping a back up on a hard disk (or two). Personal storage devices are cheap now. A 500 gig external media drive is about 250 bucks or less. I save my photos on my external HP 300 gig media drive to keep my main PC from getting bogged down with stored data. In addition, I do a nightly auto backup using Sonic Backup software to back up this onto another HP 300 gig media drive (just in case as it still would be alot of work working from old photo disks)
Good Luck and Best Wishes!!! Gary
PS... I am back in Nj now '-)))
PS2... I added you to my friends list,,, hope that's ok!!!
