All Capone used to live here.

Your knowledge of Chicago exceeds most of the people who live in Chicago! I have lived here my entire life and I have seen that building for many years, but until I took the archtecture tour on the boat I was not aware of that myself!

..and thank you for the comment on the other shot..

Hi again Dmitry.....thanks for the comments. About the filters......the 300mm Nikkor uses "drop-in" filters (52mm) behind the front glass. Screw-on filters are not applicable for this lens (front element is way too big). We're talking several hundred dollars for a drop-in circular polarizer. It will have to wait for a while. But thanks for offering.....you're a good friend. I DO use Photoshop CS4 for post-processing. I shoot almost always in RAW and that allows me lots of options in post-processing. As a matter of fact, when this message came in, I was working on creating an Action for embedding my watermark and copyright info. I've screwed it up twice by watching the World Series as I worked and not paying strict attention to details. I'll try it again in a minute. If you'd like to try some racing photo work at Road America, I'm pretty sure I can get you a photo pass...at least for some of the less popular races. The "big-time" races usually have more photographers than race drivers and my boss is less likely to allow me to bring a friend. I especially like the Vintage races....lots of old-time cars; I love to see those old boys still out there getting it done. Let me know in the spring if you're interested....maybe we can work it out.

Hi Dmitry.....thanks for the visit and the comment. Weather was nice for outside photos on that day. Lots of clouds; nice diffuse light; no harsh shadows. Why can't I have such a day at Road America? lol Usually it's very shiny and the paint jobs on those cars are highly reflective. Hard to avoid shadows. I'd buy a polarizer for the 300mm to minimize the problem but it's too expensive. Maybe next year.

PS Nice job on the Homecoming album.

Thank you for the link to Jonvelle.. I was not familiar with that artist. His work is wonderful. I have a shoot in early Sept with 2 models for a retro bordello shoot.. I love this shot

I may try to do something similar with bustiers on (neither model shoots nude) the women.

I wish I could read French so I could understand what he said in the articles

..and ask away..either to Red Lion or to G&D.. the same person usually responds..but my partner Greg will see your questions and my replies as G&D.. but that is OK with me :)

The lighting in those Fire and Ice promo shots are a simple 4 light set up, 2 on paper backdrop and 2 umbrellas facing women

You are now a friend of both

Dmitry, what I was trying to relay to you was I can accept your criticism and not be hurt by it. When I decided to go into photography as a part time business I learned to accept that the client sees with "different eyes". You saw my image with different eyes, and I was not offended. :)

This is my new "pro" site where much of my on-going work will be.

    http://public.fotki.com/GandDStudios/

Red Lion will stay for shots of my family, including art photos of my wife of many years :)

..as "proof" of my sincerity, I have open up my Red Lion Private folders where images such as those in the BR are kept. I will assume that they will not offend you with the subject matter..if they so, I apoligize in advance.

...and I can deal with ANOTHER Packer fan, especially when I see the direction our respective teams seem to be heading LOL.. does anyone really care of Bret joins the vi-queens?

You should have left your comment in the BR. I don't expect every image of mine to please everyone, and as I said, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I obviously did not agree, but one often does not when it comes to art .. beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. I will say that the lighting was natural and difficult and I don't believe that shot is not over edited....but that is just the voice of the artist defending his work... you dont need to agree with me ever.

But I did appreciate that you in fact took the time to let me know of your displeasure, rather than give me a silent "1" and walk away.

    Regards
    Dan

Hi Dmitry....thanks for the visit and the comments. You are right....300 mm opens new possibilities. I'm already thinking that 600 mm might open some more of them. lol Will you be attending the Gerlach seminar tomorrow or does work prevail?
